Opening of Agricultural Market for Brazil in South Africa

The governments of Brazil and South Africa have concluded a phytosanitary agreement, allowing Brazil to export canola seeds to that country.

With a population of over 63 million, South Africa imported approximately USD 635 million in agricultural products from Brazil in 2024, with highlights including meat, sugar, cereals, and coffee.

In addition to promoting the diversification of Brazil’s trade partners, this market opening represents a new business opportunity for the Brazilian private sector, as South Africa is a significant producer of oilseeds in the regional context.

With this announcement, Brazilian agribusiness has reached 394 new market openings since the beginning of 2023.

These results are the outcome of joint efforts between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
