Paraná continues to monitor quarantined ships

Portos do Paraná reported that it continues to monitor the three ships in quarantine under orders from ANVISA (the national health surveillance agency).

The vessels, whose crew tested positive for Covid-19 last week, remain isolated in the anchorage area in front of the quay at the Port of Paranaguá.

ANVISA has also prohibited third-party access to ships in quarantine. In principle, as informed by the national health authority, the quarantine period is 10 days.

Before returning to the dock to complete the operations for which the ships were scheduled, the crew will have to do new RT-PCR tests.

The ships in quarantine are the Maltese-flagged MV Astakos, which was unloading fertilizers. The vessel arrived on July 25 and was quarantined the following day; the Meghna Princess – sailing under the Bangladeshi flag, had been loading soybeans in berth 213 since July 27 and was quarantined on the 29th; and Redhead – sailing under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda, which arrived July 25th to load sugar in berth 201 was also quarantined on July 29th.

The only ship for which ANVISA triggered the contingency plan to use the ambulance provided by Portos do Paraná to transport crew members who needed hospital care was the Meghna Princess.
