The ports of Paranaguá and Antonina, in southern Brazil’s Paraná state, handled a record 34.44 million metric tons of cargo in the first half of 2026.
The volume was 0.6% higher than in the same period of 2025, according to data from state-owned port authority Portos do Paraná.
Soybeans were among the main drivers of the increase. Shipments reached 9.47 million metric tons between January and June, up 21% from 7.86 million metric tons in the first half of 2025.
Containerized cargo totaled 8.7 million metric tons, an increase of 8.9% from the 8 million metric tons handled a year earlier.
Exports through Paraná’s ports reached 22.30 million metric tons in the first six months of the year, up 4.9% from 21.27 million metric tons in the same period of 2025. Imports fell to 12.1 million metric tons from 12.9 million metric tons a year earlier.
Soybean meal was the second-most-exported dry bulk commodity, with shipments of 3.39 million metric tons, broadly stable compared with 3.42 million metric tons in the first half of 2025.
Combined soybean and soybean meal exports reached 12.86 million metric tons, accounting for 57.6% of all cargo exported through the ports. The Port of Paranaguá ranks second among Brazilian ports for exports of the two commodities.
Vehicle throughput rose 66% in the first half of the year to 84,800 units, up from 51,100 in the same period of 2025. The total was already equivalent to nearly 80% of all vehicles handled throughout last year.
Fertilizers were the leading imported commodity, with Paraná’s ports receiving 4.73 million metric tons during the first half of 2026.
