Paraná Ports surpassed 28 million tonnes handled in the first five months of the year

Paraná’s public ports recorded 28,195,118 tonnes of cargo handled between January and May this year. The volume represents a 3.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024 when 27,197,565 tonnes were handled. According to data from the federal government released by Comex Stat, the FOB value — which reflects the price of the product at the port of shipment — exceeded USD 19 billion during the period.
“The growth is directly linked to exchange rate fluctuations in the international market and the geopolitical scenario, which affects demand for the products shipped through Paraná ports,” explained Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of Portos do Paraná.
Exports remain driven by agricultural commodities. Soybeans lead in volume, with 6,326,901 tonnes exported, followed by soybean meal, which accounted for 3,036,137 tonnes shipped abroad. China and the Netherlands were the main destinations, together accounting for 15% of the national share in the sector, equivalent to USD 3.4 billion in FOB value.
Strong productivity in the 2024/2025 harvest contributed to the solid year-to-date results. Despite a slight dip in demand between April and May, soybean and meal exports picked up strongly in June. The outlook now is for the export of two to three million tonnes of corn in the second half of the year.
On the import side, fertilizers lead in volume, with 4,357,233 tonnes unloaded at Paraná ports. The value of these operations reached USD 1.4 billion, accounting for more than 25% of national fertilizer imports. The main destinations for these products are the states of Paraná, São Paulo, Mato Grosso, and Goiás.

The forecast for the second half of the year is more optimistic compared to 2024. “The second half of last year was challenging in terms of demand and export volume, especially in the final quarter. In 2025, the scenario looks more promising,” said Gabriel Vieira, Operations Director at Portos do Paraná.
According to Vieira, many producers chose to delay sales and exports between April and May. “In June, we’ve seen a recovery in sales, with a trend toward steady flow of the record 2025 harvest over the coming months,” he added.
