Paranaguá port leads Brazil’s soybean exports, boosts share in chicken and soymeal trade

The Port of Paranaguá stood out in Brazil’s soybean exports in August, with a volume of 2 million tonnes, reaching US$845.9 million FOB – the value corresponding to the product’s price at the point of shipment. This figure represents 21.7% of all exports from the country during the same period.
From January to August 2025, 11.3 million tonnes of soybeans were shipped through Paranaguá, equivalent to US$4.5 billion FOB. This value exceeds by US$1.2 billion the total exported by producers in Paraná, according to figures released last week by the Paraná Institute of Economic and Social Development (Ipardes).
See below a comparison of soybean exports from Paranaguá in the first seven months of the year over the past four years. The chart was prepared with DataLiner data:

The difference is explained by the fact that the Port of Paranaguá also handles cargoes originating from other states. “It is a clear demonstration that we are ready to serve our entire hinterland, which includes Paraná and parts of Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, and Goiás,” said Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of Portos do Paraná.
The main destination of soy exports during the period was China, which accounted for more than 90% of demand. Thailand (2.2%) and Iraq (1.6%) followed.
Despite a third of the month being marked by rain, which interrupted operations, Paranaguá handled 7 million tonnes in August, the highest figure ever recorded for the month.
According to Port Operations Director Gabriel Vieira, even with the increase in grain shipments, vessels are not queuing to berth. “Our export corridor does not face a single day of waiting beyond what is necessary for clearance procedures and berthing,” he noted.
Animal protein exports
Another commodity that stood out during the month was frozen chicken, with 185,500 tonnes handled, accounting for 49.6% of national exports – nearly half of Brazil’s total. The main origins of the exported product are Paraná and part of Santa Catarina.
In the year-to-date, Paranaguá has already exported 1.7 million tonnes of chicken. This represents 44.4% of the country’s total exports. In the FOB value, more than US$2.4 billion worth of the product has been shipped abroad.
Soybean meal gains ground in the international market
Another product that has been gaining more space is soybean meal. Exports through Paranaguá account for 29.1% of national shipments, the second-largest volume in Brazil, with 4.5 million tonnes exported in 2025. In August alone, 508,000 tonnes were handled.
The main destinations were the Netherlands, France, South Korea, Spain, Indonesia, and Germany. In this eighth month of the year, France led imports of soybean meal.
