Partial trade data reveal USD 3.87 billion surplus for Brazil

Up to the third week of June 2024, Brazil’s trade balance stood at a surplus of US$ 756 million, with a total trade flow of US$ 12.9 billion. This result stemmed from exports worth US$ 6.82 billion and imports totaling US$ 6.06 billion.
From January to the third week of June 2024, exports amounted to US$ 159.6 billion and imports to US$ 119.8 billion, resulting in a positive balance of US$ 39.8 billion and a total trade flow of US$ 279.5 billion. These figures were released by the Foreign Trade Secretariat of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services (MDIC) on Monday (24/6).
Monthly Comparison
Comparing the averages up to the third week of June 2024 (US$ 1.387 billion) with the same period in June 2023 (US$ 1.409 billion), exports saw a slight decrease of 1.6%. In contrast, imports grew by 21.4%, with averages of US$ 1.128 billion in 2024 compared to US$ 929.7 million in 2023.
Therefore, up to the third week of June 2024, the daily average trade flow totaled US$ 2.5 billion, with a daily surplus average of US$ 258 million. This represents a 7.5% increase in trade flow compared to June 2023.
Sectoral Performance
In terms of sectoral performance, comparing the daily averages until the third week of June 2024 with the same period last year, there was a 4.9% growth (US$ 18.56 million) in the agriculture sector, a 3.3% growth (US$ 9.16 million) in the extractive industry, and a 6.1% decrease (US$ 45.23 million) in manufacturing industry products.
Imports Trends
Similarly, comparing the averages recorded per day until the third week of June 2024 with the same period in the previous year, there was a 66.8% growth (US$ 9.82 million) in the agriculture sector, a 6.0% growth (US$ 3.47 million) in the extractive industry, and a significant 21.9% growth (US$ 185.91 million) in manufacturing industry products.
