In just seven months of operation, the new weekly service at APM Terminals Pecém, in partnership with MSC – the Far East-Centram-ECSA Service (Santana) – has already recorded an impressive 48% growth in cargo movement on the direct route to Asia.

The results of this strategy are already visible in the market. In July, the first export containers of beef from Minerva Foods were shipped from Pecém to the Port of Shanghai, China. This milestone is significant as it marks the opening of a new export segment with high potential, such as animal protein. The successful integration of Minerva’s cargo represents a strategic shift in how beef exports from the region can be shipped, opening a new front of scalable growth via Pecém.

The primary feature of this new service is the direct connection between Pecém and key Asian ports, including Mundra (India), Singapore, Yantian (Shenzhen), Ningbo, Shanghai, Qingdao, and Busan, among others. For exports and imports, especially to China, India, Bangladesh, and Egypt, the service offers a considerable competitive edge, particularly for Brazilian commodity shippers.

According to Daniel Rose, CEO of APM Terminals Suape and Pecém, the results are already positive: “In these seven months of operation, we have already recorded a 48% increase in cargo movement for this specific route, and we expect to attract new cargo profiles, both import and export.”

“With Pecém now directly connected to Asia, the export of products such as animal protein and even cotton gains a more competitive and strategic alternative compared with ports in Southeast and South Brazil, reducing costs and optimizing transit times,” explains André Gonzaga, operations manager at APM Terminals.

Key figures:

  • 48% increase in TEU volumes when comparing July with January
  • Total TEU volume handled in the first 7 months: 32,371
  • Average TEUs per voyage rose from 1,261 in January to 1,384 in July
