Peru closes in on Chile in 2025 agricultural exports

Peru and Chile posted near-identical agricultural export totals in 2025, highlighting Peru’s sustained agro-export expansion and a second year of recovery in Chile’s farm shipments, according to a study by Peru’s Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).

Peru’s agricultural (plant-based) exports totaled $10.730 billion in 2025, up 16.8% from 2024, while Chile’s reached $10.789 billion, an increase of 14.7%, the report said. Chile’s export value was 0.5% higher than Peru’s, a gap the study described as a near statistical tie.

Midagri attributed Peru’s performance to stable and diverse climatic conditions that allow year-round production, with products such as blueberries, grapes, avocados and green coffee cited among key drivers.

Chile’s rebound extended into a second consecutive year, after a 19% increase in 2024 and a 14.7% rise in 2025, which the report linked to relatively stable weather, innovation and more mature logistics, as well as what it called a “cherry effect” and a strong recovery in avocado and hazelnut shipments that helped Chile capitalize on favorable international prices.

Over 2010-2025, Midagri estimated Peru’s average annual agricultural export growth at 11.4%, compared with 6.7% for Chile. The ministry said its projections indicate Peru could edge past Chile slightly in 2026 and consolidate its lead in 2027.
