The outlook for Peruvian pineapple exports has been improving over the years. In 2017, the country’s pineapple production faced difficulties as its quality was irregular and did not meet international standards. However, thanks to improvements in the sector, pineapple exports reached $4.1 million in 2020, marking an important advance in the sector’s competitiveness.
This year exports have skyrocketed. In October 2024, shipments amounted to $4.2 million, 12 times more than in October 2023. Peru exported 1,390 tons of pineapples this month, i.e. 19 times more than that in the same period of 2023. However, the average price decreased by 38.3%, from US$4.84 to US$2.99 per kilogram.
The country exported canned pineapple (43.9%), dehydrated pineapple (30.4%), frozen pineapple (20.3%), pureed pineapple (4.5%), sliced pineapple (0.9%), and pineapple juice (0.1%).
The main destination was the United States (65.5% share), which purchased around 1,156 tons worth $2.7 million ($2.35 per kilogram). It was followed by Canada (26.4%), which acquired 89 tons for $1.1 million ($12.31 per kilogram).
