Cosco Shipping Ports Chancay Peru S.A., the company that operates Peru’s Chinese-backed Port of Chancay, reported a $10.789 million loss for 2025, marking its first full year of operations, according to Cosco Shipping Ports.
The result widened by $10.152 million from the $637,000 loss recorded at the end of 2024, the company said.
The terminal, inaugurated in November 2024 and fully ramped up in the first half of 2025, generated $57.087 million in revenue last year, up from $1.678 million in 2024, Cosco Shipping Ports said.
Cosco attributed the loss to higher group administrative expenses and financing costs tied to the terminal’s full-scale operations. Even so, the company said it considers the Chancay terminal a core hub and in 2026 plans to strengthen corridor development and raise service levels.
Cosco also highlighted Chancay as South America’s first “green, technology-driven” port, saying it has implemented end-to-end intelligent management and automated deployment by leveraging synergies across its three core systems: terminal operations, equipment control and fleet management.
Operationally, the port fell short of its target to exceed 350,000 TEUs handled in 2025, ending the year at 336,200 twenty-foot equivalent units, about 13,800 TEUs below the goal, Cosco said.
By quarter, the terminal handled 49,400 TEUs in the first quarter, 70,500 in the second, 111,900 in the third and 104,400 in the fourth, according to the company.
On a monthly basis, August recorded the highest throughput at 40,100 TEUs, followed by September with 37,400 and November with 36,900, Cosco said.
