Port complex project in Maricá, RJ moves forward again

The project for a port complex in Maricá (RJ) conceived by DTA Engenharia should move forward again, amid a judicial imbroglio that has been dragging on for six years. In recent weeks, two court decisions favorable to the project allowed the resumption of the environmental licensing process. With this, the company already envisages starting work at the beginning of 2022, according to the president, João Acácio Gomes de Oliveira Neto.
The project, called Ponta Negra Terminals (TPN), emerged in 2011, when DTA acquired the land at Praia de Jaconé, in Maricá. However, the process was stalled since 2015 due to a lawsuit filed by the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro in 1832.
After years of discussion, in recent weeks, the State of Rio managed, in an appeal, to suspend the injunction that impeded the project’s progress. In addition, the lower court judge also gave an interlocutory decision that allows for the continuation of the environmental analysis. Now, the state agency will be able to resume studies for the installation license – a process that should still take a few months.
