The Port of Açu and JAQ Apoio Marítimo, a business unit of Grupo Náutica, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) this Thursday (16/10) to study ways of securing funding, support, and partnerships aimed at developing vessels powered by hydrogen produced onboard, as well as research, development, and innovation projects.
The companies intend to jointly prepare technical, commercial, environmental, financial, legal, and accounting feasibility studies to advance and potentially implement this type of vessel. JAQ is already developing two vessels (Explorer H1 and Explorer H2) that will operate on green hydrogen, with zero carbon emissions. The vessels were designed to serve as advanced laboratories dedicated to studying Brazilian biomes and to function as true floating research, development, and innovation laboratories.
The project will be officially presented for the first time at COP30 in Belém (PA) and will then move to the Port of Açu next year.
