Port of Açu inspected ahead of live cattle export launch

The Port of Açu, located in São João da Barra, underwent a technical inspection to evaluate whether its Multicargo Terminal has adequate infrastructure to support the experimental phase of live cattle exports.

The inspection was conducted by representatives from the State Secretariat for Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply, the Rural Union, FAERJ, SENAR, and technical teams from Pesagro-Rio and the Superintendence of Agricultural Defense.

The initiative marks a strategic step for Rio de Janeiro’s agribusiness sector, creating new opportunities for the state’s cattle industry and expanding access to international markets. “This is an important step for Rio de Janeiro. We are creating conditions for our producers to access new markets and compete on equal footing with other exporting states. The Port of Açu has the potential to become a major export hub for our agribusiness,” said the Secretary of Agriculture, Dr. Flávio.

The experimental phase of live cattle exports aims to align protocols, ensure animal welfare, and meet sanitary requirements for operation. The project reinforces Rio de Janeiro’s ambition to establish itself as a benchmark in livestock exports. “We are strengthening our partnership with Rio’s agribusiness sector,” said the Port of Açu’s CEO, Eugenio Figueiredo. “The goal is to enable producers to use the port for the flow of their production. The port has a modern and well-prepared structure to handle different types of cargo.”

He added: “Our objective is to demonstrate how we can increase the sector’s efficiency and competitiveness, ensuring that producers gain access to international markets, better prices, and higher profitability. We want to work side by side with producers and the entire agribusiness community, positioning the Port of Açu as a strategic and promising alternative for exports.”
