Port of Buenos Aires ships pork to Singapore for the first time

On December 16, the vice president of Argentina’s Food Sanitation Service (Senasa), Rodolfo Acerbi, witnessed the first export of pork items to Singapore from the Port of Buenos Aires since the Latin country gained a place in that market.

The shipped cargo comprised pig liver (23 tonnes) and frozen fat (3 tonnes).

It is worth mentioning that last August, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) announced it would be accepting the most recent International Veterinary Certificate (CVI) proposal sent by Senasa, which promptly entered into force after mutual agreement on the requirements for exporting meat cuts, offal, and processed pork products from Argentina to the Asian island.

The negotiation, led by the Argentine health agency and joined by the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of the Nation as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, included a technical exchange between Senasa and the SFA on the paperwork control by the Singapore agency and the documentation of Argentina companies interest in exporting.

In early December 2021, the SFA conducted a virtual audit due to the covid-19 pandemic.

During the virtual examination, the SFA and the Singapore National Parks Board (NParks) verified the entire inspection system, which included meeting with technicians from the different areas within Senasa and auditing three establishments from a list of 8 companies that had sent documentation on time.

Singapore allowed the three Argentine firms to export meat and pork products to their country, while the other five received the proposal to try to qualify through the pre-listing system granted by the SFA to Senasa.

Likewise, new organizations wishing to send pork products can request Senasa to send them through a pre-listing system.

Senasa has already certified the export of more than 12,200 tonnes of pork products and byproducts to various destinations in 2022.
