The Port of Cabedelo inaugurated its new infrastructure on Monday (May 5), marking a significant milestone in its 90-year history. The upgrades include the refurbishment of warehouses, the reconstruction of the administrative headquarters, and dredging works—all part of a modernization effort to enhance operational capacity and efficiency.

Key authorities attended the ceremony, including the Governor of Paraíba, João Azevêdo; the Minister of Ports and Airports, Sílvio Costa Filho; and the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta.

During the event, an agreement was signed to fund additional works at the port through new projects under Brazil’s Growth Acceleration Program (PAC). These include a 200-meter extension and urbanization of the breakwater, dredging to widen the turning basin radius by 120 meters, and widening of the access channel curve—totaling R$155 million in investments.

Among the key upgrades delivered were:

  • A solar energy system, making Cabedelo the first public port in Brazil to operate on solar power;
  • A set of structural works includes deep drainage, solid waste treatment stations, and stormwater and sewage treatment systems.

Following the dredging and certification by the Brazilian Navy, the Port of Cabedelo will operate with an 11-meter-deep channel, enabling the docking of vessels of up to 55,000 tons. Currently, the port handles between 9 and 13 vessels per month, but Companhia Docas’s goal is to double this volume to 25–30 vessels monthly, with a particular focus on expanding container cabotage operations.

List of Investments:

  • New Administrative Headquarters
  • Refurbishment of the Primary Zone
  • Solar Power System
  • Dedicated Building for the Porto Cidade Program
  • New Weighbridge
  • New Operations Center
  • New Waste Management Facility
  • New Shift Change Facility
  • New Facilities for OGMO (Labor Management Agency)
  • New Operational Access Road
  • New Space for Regulatory Agencies
  • Wheel-Wash System
