he Port of Cabedelo, one of Paraíba’s key logistics assets, has entered a new era after receiving more than R$ 300 million in investments. The inauguration, held on Monday (May 5), marked the beginning of a new phase for the port terminal, now distinguished by modernization, increased capacity, and pioneering use of solar energy among Brazil’s public ports.
The project is a strategic step for the region’s economic growth and positions the state on the global trade map.
Modernization Strengthens Port of Cabedelo’s Economic Role
The port, located in the city of Cabedelo, in the João Pessoa metro area, underwent extensive infrastructure upgrades.
More than R$ 200 million was allocated for rehabilitating the breakwater and dredging the channel, which now has a depth of 11 meters.
This enables the port to handle vessels of up to 55,000 tons, effectively tripling its logistical capacity.
According to the Ministry of Ports and Airports (Mpor), the terminal can now accommodate up to 25 ships per month.
Cargo volumes are already showing promising results: in March 2025, the Port of Cabedelo recorded a historic high of 172,000 tons handled, primarily petcoke and fuel. Year-to-date throughput has already surpassed 285,000 tons.
Solar Power and Sustainability as Competitive Edge
In addition to infrastructure improvements, installing a photovoltaic system has made Cabedelo the first public port in Brazil to operate on solar energy.
The initiative aligns with global sustainability trends and represents a significant competitive advantage.
“These investments are completely transforming Cabedelo’s port infrastructure and will increasingly boost the state’s exports, placing Cabedelo and Paraíba in the international development hub,” said Ports and Airports Minister Silvio Costa Filho.
More Funds Planned for Future Expansion
The Ministry also announced an additional R$130 million in upcoming investments, which are intended to expand infrastructure further and increase operational efficiency.
The goal is establishing the Port of Cabedelo as a national benchmark for integrated and sustainable logistics.
“Now that the foundation is ready and solid, we’ll work to drive further development, placing the Port of Cabedelo on the globalization map of international ports,” the minister stated during the inauguration ceremony.
A New Chapter for Paraíba’s Economy
Paraíba Governor João Azevêdo highlighted the project’s transformative impact on the state’s growth. He emphasized that the revamped terminal will be a strategic engine for progress and regional integration.
