The Port of Itajaí will receive a new regular container shipping line within the next 30 days to strengthen logistics integration within Mercosur. Known as the Puma Line, the service is operated by Mercosul Line, a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group. It will dock at berths 1 and 2, currently leased by JBS. The route will connect strategic terminals along South America’s east coast.
The operation marks another milestone in the port’s revitalization, which has accelerated following restructuring efforts led by the Brazilian federal government. João Paulo Tavares Bastos, the port’s superintendent, emphasized the significance of the new service:
“The port is booming following its recovery under the Federal Government. With this new line, we’ll boost revenue, increase tax collection, and attract more investment to the city,” he said.
With the addition of the Puma Line, the Port of Itajaí strengthens its logistics network and enhances connectivity with fellow Mercosur countries, contributing to Brazil’s foreign trade competitiveness.
