The Port of Itajaí recorded historic growth in the first half of 2025, handling 1,859,082 tonnes of general cargo and containers — a 1,686% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This result marks the recovery of operations at the public quay and the area leased to JBS following a period of inactivity.
According to the port authority, the total volume consisted of 200,090 tonnes destined for exports and 179,331 tonnes for imports. In June alone, the quay handled 147,937 tonnes, while the leased area accounted for another 231,484 tonnes.
“The Port of Itajaí exceeded all expectations, especially in the container sector. The trend is one of continuous growth, reinforcing our position as a strategic hub in southern Brazil,” said João Paulo Tavares Bastos Gama, the port superintendent.
Considering the entire port complex — which includes Teporti, Poly Terminais, Barra do Rio, Trocadeiro, Braskarne, and Portonave — the accumulated volume from January to June reached 7,116,922 tonnes, with a balance between exports (3,574,635 t) and imports (3,542,287 t). Compared to the same period in 2024, this represents a 6% increase.
Below is a historical overview of container throughput at the Port of Itajaí, starting in October 2024, when JBS Terminais took over port operations. The chart was prepared using DataLiner data:

In total, 610 vessels were serviced in the semester, 101 of them in June alone. The data underscores the terminal’s recovery as one of the main gateways for Brazilian foreign trade.
Santa Catarina’s performance follows the national trend. According to the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (Antaq), Brazil handled 532 million tonnes from January to May, surpassing the total volume recorded in all of 2024 within just five months — an increase of 0.8%.
