The Port of Pecém closed 2025 with historic results. Throughout the year, 20,961,514 tonnes were handled, a 7% increase compared to 2024. The main highlight was container throughput. APM Terminals Pecém recorded 706,524 TEUs, the highest volume in the terminal’s history and a 27% increase compared to 2024, when 555,409 TEUs were handled.
The result was driven by the launch of a new long-haul route connecting Asia to Pecém, steady growth in volumes throughout the year, and the intensification of exports in the second half, when shipments consistently surpassed those of the previous year.
Coastal shipping (cabotage) also posted a strong performance, with growth of 16% over the year, including an 18% increase in discharges and a 16% rise in loadings, reinforcing the port’s role as a logistics link between Brazil’s regions.
Terminal movements can be divided into two main groups:
* cargo arriving at Pecém destined for other Brazilian ports, notably the Port of Manaus;
* cargo that remains in or originates from Ceará and neighboring states such as Rio Grande do Norte, Piauí, and Maranhão.
Both segments recorded growth of 15% and 51%, respectively, highlighting both the consolidation of the port as a transshipment hub and the strengthening of the regional economy.
Long-haul services and main cargoes
Long-haul operations (international routes) totaled 9.6 million tonnes, a 19% increase compared to 2024.
In discharges, the main products were:
* mineral fuels (3,018,554 t),
* cast iron (707,825 t),
* ores (451,422 t).
In loadings, the highlights were:
* cast iron (2,531,592 t),
* ores (590,353 t),
* salt (204,191 t),
* fruit (190,646 t).
Overall, loadings totaled 7.8 million tonnes (+11.12%) and discharges reached 12.7 million tonnes (+4.84%).
Fruit season
Fruit handling grew by 14% compared to 2024, reinforcing the port’s vocation for agribusiness exports in Brazil’s Northeast.
The following breakdown details the leading fruit commodities exported through the Port of Pecém in 2025, according to data provided by Datamar:

Vessel operations followed the growth in cargo volumes. In 2025, 517 vessel calls were recorded, a 6.8% increase compared to the 484 operations in 2024. The CFS Porto, the area dedicated to cargo consolidation and deconsolidation, registered 13,143 services, the highest annual volume in the terminal’s history, up 25%. This advance was also accompanied by a 25% increase in ancillary services, including container stuffing and stripping, inspections, and other integrated logistics solutions tailored to customer needs.
“Cargo handling in 2025 shows a shift in cargo flows from July onward. After a more stable first half, we began to record month-on-month growth in the second half of the year, exceeding the company’s initial projections. The sustained maintenance of high volumes in the last quarter, with operational stability and logistical predictability, consolidated the best performance in the terminal’s history,” said Daniel Rose, CEO of APM Terminals Suape and Pecém.
