The Port of Recife received on Wednesday, Dec 28, a vessel that will be used to transport ethanol in the port’s second export operation. The product was produced in the Pernambuco state by the JB Group. The Marshall Island-flagged vessel Easterly as Maria docked at 6 am. Three hours later, the operations had already started. This time, the export quantity will be larger: 4,373 tonnes destined for Lagos, Nigeria.
“We were able to make this operation a reality in Recife thanks to all the good effort to seek and attract new cargo to Recife. This operation is the second ethanol shipment departing from Recife, and we have a third and fourth already scheduled for 2023,” commemorates Tito Moraes, president of the Port of Recife.
Eight different trucks bring the cargo to the vessel. As the volume this time is bigger, the trucks will complete 90 roundtrips between Recife and Vitoria de Santo Antão to fetch the alcohol that is then piped directly from the trucks to the ship’s tanks.
Right in front of the vessel, a container was modified and equipped to function as a small laboratory to assess the purity of the product before loading, ensuring the quality of the product used in the manufacture of beverages, perfumes, meds, and foods.
In addition, the operation counts with an environmental team on site all day long. A company was hired to monitor the shipments and prevent ecological accidents. The ship is scheduled to undock this Friday (12/30).
