Port of Rio Grande has DZP updated by Ministry of Agriculture

The Brazilian Ministry of Infrastructure (Minfra), on the 14th, published in the Official Federal Gazette the approval of the new Development and Zoning Plan (DZP) for the port of Rio Grande. The document is the port authority’s planning instrument and includes strategies for expanding its operations in an orderly, sustainable manner.

The DZP is one of the port planning items issued by the federal government and its guidelines are established in Ordinance No. 61 of June 10, 2020. The Port of Rio Grande had a previously-established DZP in place but – due to the publication of a new Master Plan by Minfra and the revision of the polygonal routes adopted by the ports of Rio Grande do Sul state –  it was necessary to create a new document.

The proposal sent to the Ministry to update the Plan took into account the necessity of developing the port in terms of the optimization of its used areas, the quality of its facilities and infrastructure, as well as integrating the port with land transport modals and establishing alternatives for the expansion of port activities by cargo profile, complying to environmental licensing, among other points.

As the Superintendence of the Ports of Rio Grande do Sul (Portos RS) is also responsible for administrating the ports of Pelotas and Porto Alegre, the group is already working on preparing updated DZP proposals for these two cities, which should be completed soon.
