Port of Salvador Increases Cotton Shipments

The Port of Salvador has taken over the national runner-up position in Brazilian cotton exports, rising from 24,500 to nearly 55,000 tonnes, a volume surpassed only by the Port of Santos. The achievement earned an honorable mention from the National Association of Cotton Exporters (Anea).
And more: with the state government’s announced investments in the expansion and modernization of the docks, the projection is for continued growth in cotton export volumes.
The data were released by the Secretariat of Foreign Trade, identifying China as the leading importer, followed by India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Turkey, and Vietnam.
Below is a historical overview of cotton exports via the Port of Salvador starting in January 2022. The chart was prepared using DataLiner data:

The buyers’ geopolitical profile highlights how much the textile industry in Asia depends on cotton produced in western Bahia.
“With more than 2.57 million tonnes exported between January and November, and with initial December records already in the system, the result confirms the strong presence of Brazilian cotton in the international market in 2025,” says Anea president Dawid Wajs.
According to the Anea president, it is worth recalling the importance of a tariff exemption in explaining the growth of shipments to India, a country whose independence has the loom as one of its most significant symbols.
“We still have a lot of work ahead, both to continue opening new markets and to maintain the ones we have, but mainly to help raise consumer awareness about the benefits of cotton compared with fossil-based fibers,” says Dawid Wajs.
