The Mutual Aid Plan (PAM) of the Port of Santos, coordinated by the Santos Port Authority (APS), carried out an emergency response drill on Wednesday (August 20) at the São Paulo Regasification Terminal (TRSP), operated by Edge and located within the Organized Port of Santos.

The aim of the drill was to train coordination among participating agencies and prepare emergency response teams for real-life incidents at the terminal, which handles liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The exercise took place at the TRSP, specifically aboard the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) moored at a pier in Largo do Caneu, near Ilha dos Bagres in the Santos estuary.

The scenario simulated an emergency response to a fire on the terminal’s service platform. The drill included a simulated emergency unmooring and disconnection of the FSRU, in order to test emergency contact protocols and the removal of a hypothetical victim.

The activity involved the terminal’s emergency brigade, the FSRU’s operational team, tugboats, tactical units, and land and sea rescue teams. The Fire Department, Santos Civil Defense, emergency teams from nearby terminals, and APS personnel all took part. No public roads in Santos or Cubatão were closed during the operation.

According to APS president Anderson Pomini, drills like this are crucial to informing key stakeholders—such as Port Authority staff, service providers, terminal and port operators, and port users—on emergency protocols. “These exercises offer valuable experience and knowledge to all involved, enabling faster mobilization of resources and identifying improvements for future drills and real-life incidents.”

Edge Operations Director Catarina Amaral emphasized that safety is a core value for the company. “Safety is non-negotiable and our top priority. Our mission is to develop the gas market with safety, competitiveness, and flexibility. All of our operations are governed by a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policy, which is essential to protect lives and ensure continuous supply to our customers,” she stated.
