The Santos Port Authority (APS) held a meeting on the morning of last Friday (11th) with the São Paulo Port Captaincy (CPSP) and representatives from the private sector to discuss the progress of recovery efforts for the pier damaged by the collision with the vessel Olavo Bilac, which occurred on March 12.
The detailed underwater inspection at the accident site was completed on Thursday (10th), and the company responsible is expected to finalize the structural recovery project for the damages within approximately 30 days.
“There is a strong commitment from all parties involved — the Port Authority, the Navy, and the companies — to seek solutions and mitigate any potential impacts on port operations,” said Beto Mendes, APS Director of Operations.
“We’ve completed the diagnostic phase of the damages, and everyone is committed to moving forward to the next stages and solving the issue as quickly as possible, always prioritizing the safety of the facilities and users,” assured Orlando Razões, APS Director of Infrastructure.
Next Steps
Exe Engenharia, the company responsible for the original quay project, was hired to assess the structure and prepare the recovery project, a decision that was positively received by those present at the meeting.
The Commander of the Port Captaincy, Navy Captain Marcus André de Souza e Silva, stated that the Navy closely monitors the efforts and emphasized the institution’s commitment to swiftly resolving the incident.
Representatives of pulp-operating companies with berths near the collision site also attended. The Santos Port Authority maintains close communication with the terminals to ensure that the partial quay closure does not affect the scheduling of port operations.
Also attending on behalf of APS were Inspection Manager Ricardo Moreira, Port Operations Superintendent Márcio Kanashiro, and Infrastructure Directorate Advisor Cristina Rodrigues.
