Port of São Francisco do Sul announces new infrastructure investments
Jul, 02, 2026The Port of São Francisco do Sul marked its 71st anniversary on Tuesday (1) with the announcement of R$27 million in new infrastructure investments, to be funded with the state-owned port company’s own resources.
The ceremony, held at the company’s headquarters, was attended by Santa Catarina Governor Jorginho Mello, local authorities and port workers, bringing together about 350 people.
BR-280 access road
During the event, the port signed the authorization to publish the tender notice for the company that will carry out expansion works on BR-280, the federal highway that provides access to the port complex.
The project covers 1.4 kilometers, starting at kilometer zero of BR-280, in front of Terminal Santa Catarina, known as Tesc. It includes the construction of two additional traffic lanes along about 800 meters of BR-280 and another 600 meters on Avenida Engenheiro Leite Ribeiro, which links the highway to the port.
The tender has a reference value of R$11 million and includes paving, restoration, drainage, signage and related works. The project is designed to expand access capacity to the port complex, improve truck flows and support cargo handling. Construction is expected to take 10 months.
“The port is a living force in northern Santa Catarina and has been delivering strong results. These investments are being made with the port’s own profit. On BR-280, we are doing kilometer zero with our own money. The port got tired of waiting, and this stretch is being built to ease congestion and improve traffic flow,” Governor Jorginho Mello said.
Three new warehouses
The port also inaugurated three new warehouses in its operational area, representing an investment of R$4.9 million.
Together, the three structures add 15,000 square meters of storage space, with about 5,000 square meters each.
The additional storage area is expected to increase cargo stocking capacity, improve the flow of goods entering and leaving the port, and reduce operational bottlenecks.
“We increased our storage capacity by 20% with these new warehouses, using modern control technology authorized by the Federal Revenue Service. They will be used to receive imported cargo, especially steel. We can already see coils here today, and the warehouse is already in use, even on inauguration day. This will be very important for industrial production in Santa Catarina and across Brazil by supporting the arrival of these inputs,” said Cleverton Vieira, president of the Port of São Francisco do Sul.
Drainage system upgrade
Another tender launched by the port covers the hiring of a company to prepare executive projects and carry out modernization, expansion and restructuring works on the port’s stormwater drainage and sewage systems. The reference value is R$5.2 million.
The project aims to permanently separate the stormwater and sewage networks, reduce environmental contamination risks, improve drainage and meet environmental requirements.
Firefighting system modernization
The port also signed the tender notice for the hiring of a company to prepare the executive project and carry out works to implement, adapt, expand and modernize the hydrant and sprinkler firefighting system.
The contract has a reference value of R$5.4 million. The works are intended to expand the port’s fire prevention and response coverage, meet Fire Department standards and strengthen operational safety.
