The Port of Suape maintained a strong growth trajectory in 2026, reinforcing its position in Brazil’s logistics network. Consolidated first-quarter data show that the port complex handled 6.5 million tonnes of gross cargo, a sharp increase from the 5.04 million tonnes recorded in the same period of 2025. The result represents 29% growth in total throughput.
“We closed the first quarter with the satisfaction of seeing the Port of Suape on a path of consistent growth. The nearly 30% increase in total throughput is a direct reflection of our operational efficiency and reaffirms our leadership as the region’s main logistics hub. This figure proves that our strategy is delivering results, ensuring that the complex continues to operate as a vital driver of economic and logistics development in the Northeast and in Brazil,” said Suape Chief Executive Armando Monteiro Bisneto.
The main driver of the result was liquid bulk and gas operations, which continued at a strong pace despite the armed conflict in the Persian Gulf, one of the world’s most important trade routes. With 4.2 million tonnes handled in the quarter, the segment posted a 43% increase from the first three months of 2025. The main cargoes were petroleum products, crude oil, liquefied petroleum gas, fuel ethanol and biodiesel. Together, that group accounted for 65% of all cargo handled at Suape from January to March.
Solid bulk cargo also deserves attention, closing the period at 390,700 tonnes, up 64.7% from the year-earlier period, led by wheat and petroleum coke. Container throughput also maintained a growth trend, with more than 167,500 TEUs handled in the period, up 3.4% from the first quarter of last year.
Datamar’s latest container throughput data shows that 17,727 TEUs moved through the port between January and February 2026. The chart below shows the main containerized cargoes handled during the period:

Suape’s advance was driven mainly by cabotage, which posted a sharp 52% increase to 4.5 million tonnes and accounted for 70% of the port’s total operations. Unloading remained predominant, representing 69% of total cabotage volume and rising 27%. Shipments increased 34%, reflecting growing momentum in cargo flows through the Pernambuco port complex.
“The quarter’s results also reaffirm Suape’s commitment to the Agro Pact, showing that our structure is fully aligned with the shipping and supply needs of this vital sector,” said José Constantino, director of development and port management.
Port of Suape in Brazilian logistics
The Port of Suape is Brazil’s sixth-busiest public port. In 2025, it handled 24.253 million tonnes. That performance is tied to its strategic location, infrastructure and use of new technologies, which provide greater speed in cargo loading and unloading.
The port marked its 47th anniversary on Nov. 7, 2025, celebrating achievements reached over four and a half decades of operations. Since its inauguration, it has attracted 74.5 billion reais in private investment and now hosts 90 operating companies, generating more than 30,000 jobs.
