Porto Itapoá has reached the milestone of more than 2 million liters of reused water since the inauguration of its Phase III expansion in January 2024. The result is driven by the operation of its Water Reuse Station, equipped with modern internal membrane technology—compact and highly efficient—with a treatment capacity of up to 10 m³ per day.
The treated water is reused across several operational fronts, including restroom supply, vehicle washing, waste management, and other internal demands. The initiative directly contributes to reducing potable water consumption and mitigating the environmental impacts of logistics activities.
“This is an example of how technology and sustainability can go hand in hand. Our commitment goes beyond operational efficiency; we are dedicated to adopting practices that contribute to environmental preservation and the responsible use of natural resources,” said Porto Itapoá CEO Ricardo Arten.
The initiative follows leading environmental standards and represents a significant advancement in water management within the port sector. In addition, Porto Itapoá maintains a well-established effluent treatment system, which exceeds 7 million liters per year. In place since the beginning of operations, the structure has been continuously improved and, in 2022, was upgraded with membrane bioreactor technology, commonly used in more advanced industrial segments.
Currently, an average of 20,000 liters of effluents are treated daily, originating from restrooms, the cafeteria, and the administrative building kitchen, with an installed capacity exceeding 70,000 liters per day. The treated water reaches a quality suitable for reuse, and the terminal is already evaluating its application in activities such as cleaning areas and equipment, further enhancing the environmental efficiency of its operations.
