Porto Sudeste sets iron ore shipment record with 3.3m tonnes in August

August was a landmark month for Porto Sudeste, a private port terminal located in the city of Itaguaí, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In the month that marks its 10th year of operations, the port recorded the highest monthly volume of iron ore shipments in its history: 3.3 million tonnes. It also reached a new peak of 12 trains unloaded in a single day.

The total volume was reached on Sunday (August 31), with the completion of loading operations for the vessels Berge Bimberi and KSL Seattle, which departed Sepetiba Bay carrying 203,153 and 181,015 tonnes, respectively. The previous monthly record was 2.95 million tonnes, set in August 2020.

Another important milestone was the unloading of 12 trains in a single day, totaling over 177,000 tonnes of iron ore. This surpassed the previous record of 10 trains, set in 2023.
