Portocel has completed its first year of operations at Terminal 32 (T32) in the Port of Santos. The operator, which handles part of the pulp exports produced by Suzano in Brazil, is evaluating the implementation of new technologies at the Santos terminal, according to Valéria Becalli, the company’s Manager of Strategy, Management, and New Business.

With 47 years of operations in Aracruz (ES), the Espírito Santo-based company already uses technologies there that could enhance productivity and safety in Santos operations. “In Aracruz, we’ve implemented technologies such as an automatic spreader (equipment used to lift and move containers or cargo), dynamic draught sensors (which measure water depth in real time), a certified route for autonomous vehicles, and a computer vision project with artificial intelligence. We are evaluating the possibility of bringing some of these solutions to Santos,” said Valéria.

In its first year at T32, Portocel, which has 61 employees in the region, reached several significant operational milestones. “Highlights include 22,300 tonnes of pulp shipped in 24 hours and the simultaneous unloading of up to 44 railcars, with peaks of 16 railcars per hour during cargo reception,” said the manager.

“The performance achieved in our first year already shows that we are ready to meet the most demanding challenges with agility and reliability,” Valéria emphasized. She also noted that the company’s work generates benefits throughout the logistics chain, connecting production to international markets with consistent performance.
