Portonave announces new maritime service between the Americas

Portonave has expanded its portfolio of maritime connections with the addition of the ZIM Gulf Toucan (ZGT) service, operated by ZIM Integrated Shipping Services. The ZGT strengthens integration between the East Coast of South America and major logistics hubs in the Caribbean, the U.S. East Coast, and the Gulf of Mexico, creating new opportunities for importers and exporters.
With weekly frequency, the route operates with eight vessels in rotation and serves strategic ports in Mexico, the United States, Jamaica, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay, expanding logistics alternatives for both exporters and importers.
Among the types of cargo that can be handled on this route are wood and wood products, paper, machinery, base metals, chemicals, frozen meat, food products, and more.
With the addition of the ZGT service, Portonave strengthens its position among the main long-haul trade routes, serving as a competitive gateway for foreign trade. The new line allows the company to offer connections to three continents — Asia, Europe, and the Americas — as well as cabotage (coastal shipping along the coast of Brazil).
Cooperation with Ocean Network Express (ONE)
The operation runs under a Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA), a cooperation model in which shipping companies share vessels within the same service, optimizing capacity and expanding route coverage.
In this partnership, ZIM acts as the service leader, while Ocean Network Express operates as a slotter — a model in which the carrier does not directly operate the vessels but markets space (slots) on ships within the service, increasing capacity offerings to the market.
