Portonave, the country’s first private container port terminal, has reached the milestone of 15 million TEUs handled since the start of operations in 2007, becoming the first and only port in Santa Catarina to achieve that mark. The milestone was recorded during the operation of the Santa Catarina Express, operated by Hapag-Lloyd, with 3,500 container moves completed on the call, including 1,555 loadings and 2,031 unloadings, on the Ipanema service to Asia.

The chart below shows month-by-month container throughput at the Port of Navegantes, according to data obtained by Datamar:

In the past year, the terminal handled 1.1 million TEUs, with an average of 114 moves per hour, the highest rate among Brazilian ports, according to Brazil’s waterway transport regulator ANTAQ. In the first quarter of this year, throughput reached 321,000 TEUs, up 14% from the same period a year earlier. Over 19 years of operation, through the end of the first quarter, the terminal has received a total of 10,158 vessel calls.

The figures are notable because the terminal is carrying out quay upgrade works while operating with only 450 meters of berth, as the other half of the quay remains under construction, with completion expected in the second half of this year. In addition, the company is set to receive new container-handling equipment this year. Investments in the works and equipment total 2 billion reais. These investments will allow the terminal to handle vessels of up to 400 meters in length, with drafts of up to 17 meters, and will expand annual capacity to 2 million TEUs.

Alongside efficiency gains and new investment, the company continues to treat safety as a strategic priority across all operations. That commitment is reflected in preventive actions aimed at strengthening risk management and consolidating a mature safety culture, in which prevention and care for people are embedded in decision-making and daily operations. Employees carry out Daily Safety Dialogues every day. Between January 2025 and March 2026, a total of 14,017 such dialogues were held. Safety technicians and managers also conduct safety walks across the terminal to reinforce good practices.

National leader in customer satisfaction and experience

Safety, efficiency and service excellence guide every delivery by the company, a commitment that has been recognized by customers. According to the Ibero-Brazilian Customer Relations Institute, Portonave ranks first among Brazilian port terminals in both the Spontaneous Satisfaction Index, with 94 points, and the Customer Journey Index, with 90 points. The study assessed 13 container terminals in the country, using 2025 as the base year. Customer perception, including exporters, importers, shipping lines, trucking companies and customs brokers, was evaluated based on their experience across key points of contact.
