The year 2021 was the most prosperous in Portonave’s history. The terminal handled 1.1 million TEUs, up 29% over 2020.
Shipments of wood, its derivatives, and frozen proteins, were among the season’s highlight exports. Chemical products, polymers and its derivatives, as well as textiles, accounted for 57 percent of total imported cargo, indicating a 38.6% increase.
“After 14 years of operation, the Port has surpassed a milestone of 1 million TEUs. Furthermore, with a gain of 18.8%, we completed the year with the highest number of refrigerated container (reefer) exports in recent years. We are effectively managing the pandemic’s hurdles, and we will continue to grow in 2022,” says Rodrigo Gomes, Commercial Manager.
These figures were boosted by the refurbishment of the terminal’s maneuvering basin, particularly once night movements were permitted. The Navegantes Port had 608 ships moored in 2021, with at least 109 ships longer than 306 meters using the basin that opened in 2020.
