During COP30, the international conference held in Belém (PA) that brings together global leaders to discuss climate change challenges, Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) awarded Portonave the Diamond Sustainability Seal — the highest classification — on Wednesday (12). The initiative aims to encourage environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices in the port sector, aligned with the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To earn the recognition, Portonave joined the MPor Sustainability Pact and prepared an action plan that consolidates its main sustainability initiatives — each linked to a specific SDG. Under the environmental pillar, highlights include the acquisition of port equipment with lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, a study on climate change risks in the port sector scheduled for publication this year, and ongoing environmental monitoring programs. The company adopts efficient waste management practices based on the Zero Waste methodology, as well as initiatives for water reuse and biodiversity preservation, such as the “Corujar” program, which monitors burrowing owls.

On the social front, Portonave stands out for its Maternity Support Program, which achieved a 100% return rate of professionals after maternity leave, and for training and inclusion projects such as the Jovem Aprendiz, Embarca Aí (focused on youth development), and the Portonave Institute Choir, which offers singing lessons to the community.

In governance, since 2021, the company has held ISO 37001 certification (Anti-Bribery Management System), becoming the first container terminal in Brazil to obtain it. These initiatives strengthen transparency and promote ethical, responsible management, thereby reinforcing a positive port–city relationship. Other initiatives are detailed in the company’s Sustainability Reports, prepared in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. About the MPor Sustainability Seal
Created this year by the Ministry of Ports and Airports, the Sustainability Seal recognizes good ESG practices among public and private ports across Brazil. The assessment is based on technical criteria audited by independent institutions and evaluated through sustainable performance indicators.

Diamond Classification
To achieve Diamond status, Portonave presented an action plan containing 10 initiatives across the three required ESG pillars — including two self-defined goals, one environmental and one social. All initiatives were evaluated and audited by an independent institution. The company also publicly disclosed salary and compensation transparency reports, confirmed participation in the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, and published its corporate greenhouse gas inventories in the Public Emissions Register. Additionally, the company has no unresolved harassment reports or cases involving forced or child labor.

Benefits of the recognition
With the Diamond Seal, Portonave gains several benefits granted by MPor: priority in debenture issuance qualification, priority analysis of projects financed by the Merchant Marine Fund (FMM), scoring advantages in awards and tie-breaking criteria for MPor recognitions, prioritization in administrative proceedings, and faster environmental licensing reviews and government liaison processes.
