PTP Group Logistics has announced plans to build a multipurpose terminal at the Port of Porto Murtinho in Brazil, designed to handle fertilizers, grains and containers from the state of Mato Grosso.
According to a statement posted on the Argentine company’s social media channels, the new logistics hub is expected to strengthen regional integration and improve efficiency across the supply chain.
“This new hub will strengthen logistics integration in a regional enclave, improving the efficiency of the entire chain while making the corridor more competitive and cost-effective for producers,” the company said.
Francisco Catarino, country manager of PTP Brasil, said the project takes advantage of a logistical opportunity in the Paraguay River system.
“A particularly favorable logistical aspect is that many barges currently return empty along the Paraguay River after transporting iron ore from the Corumbá region, located upstream from Porto Murtinho,” Catarino said.
“The operation of the private-use terminal ‘PTP – Porto de Murtinho’ will allow us to take advantage of this return route, creating a significant economic opportunity. Instead of navigating without cargo, these vessels will be able to travel upstream carrying fertilizers destined for Brazil’s Center-West region,” he added.
Catarino said the arrangement could lower logistics costs, improve efficiency along the Paraguay–Paraná waterway and strengthen regional competitiveness.
The multipurpose terminal is expected to require investments of about 180 million reais ($35 million) and forms part of Brazil’s broader port modernization agenda.
