Exports of milled rice (husk basis) reached 92.2 thousand tons in May, an 82% year-on-year increase, according to data released this Saturday (June 14) by the Brazilian Rice Industry Association (Abiarroz), based on federal government statistics.
On the other hand, imports still exceed Brazil’s rice exports, although they are on the decline. The imported volume in May totaled 128.6 thousand tons, down 10%, with 126.5 thousand being of the milled type.
In terms of revenue, Abiarroz highlighted that exports last month generated US$ 25.7 million, a 20% increase. For imports, the country spent US$ 35.8 million.

The main destinations for Brazilian rice exports, in terms of volume, were the Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Senegal. Most imports, in general, come from South American countries.
