Rice: Exports see slight boost; spot market remains slow
Oct, 30, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202441
Rice exports received a modest boost over the past week, according to Cepea data. The Center’s analysis shows that international demand has spread to additional micro-regions of Rio Grande do Sul, especially in the Western Frontier and Campanha areas, due to a pullback in selling activity near the Port of Rio Grande. Meanwhile, the spot market for paddy rice in Rio Grande do Sul remains slow.
Cepea researchers note that market agents prefer to trade rice already in storage, avoiding additional purchases. Some producers are currently focused on fieldwork for the new crop, reducing domestic sales, while others are holding back in anticipation of more defined price trends, Cepea reports.
