The last time the volume had been higher was in November 2017, when imports totaled US$105.9 million (R$572 million).
The jump was driven mainly by a doubling of beef purchases, which rose from US$30 million (R$162 million) to US$60.7 million (R$327.9 million). There was also a 28% increase in imports of beef offal.
On the other hand, chicken meat imports fell nearly fourfold, dropping to US$2.5 million (R$13.5 million).
In August, the largest importer of Brazilian meat was China, followed by Mexico, the Philippines, Chile, and Japan. Russia ranked eighth.
