The Port of Itajaí has received yet another multimillion-dollar shipment of luxury cars. On Thursday night (18), the Brasília Highway, a vessel specialized in Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) vehicle transport, docked at the terminal carrying 723 luxury cars.
Among the BMW and Mini Cooper models, standouts included the BMW 220, 420i, and M3 — including an exclusive lime-green paint option known in the market as São Paulo Yellow. The unloading operation began at 1 a.m. on Friday (19), following the ship’s docking at 10 p.m.
The Ro-Ro system allows vehicles to drive on and off the ship via ramps, as if it were a floating parking lot. This method ensures agility and safety during unloading, reduces handling and the risk of damage, and speeds up port operations.
“Ro-Ro operations are synonymous with efficiency: less handling, more safety, and faster yard turnover. In 2025, we’ve already had 11 such calls at the Port of Itajaí. Today, with the Brasília Highway docking at 10 p.m. and unloading beginning at 1 a.m., we demonstrated precise planning and execution, ensuring predictability for importers and fluidity in the logistics chain. Itajaí is returning to being one of the country’s major logistics players,” said João Paulo Tavares Bastos, superintendent of the Port of Itajaí.
Luxury car shipments
According to the port authority, the logistics efficiency of the Port of Itajaí has also been reinforced by other improvements. Among them is maintenance dredging, completed in early 2025, which restored ideal depths in the inner and outer channels and maneuvering basins, enabling the safe entry of larger vessels.
Vehicle operations have involved extensive mobilization of local labor, a continuous flow of car carrier trucks, well-organized yards, and the use of digital control systems for real-time monitoring — all measures that reduce overall operation times.
