Santos Brasil rolls out new operating system at Tecon Imbituba

Santos Brasil has completed the rollout of a new terminal operating system at Tecon Imbituba, its container terminal in the southern state of Santa Catarina.

The OPUS platform, developed by South Korea’s CyberLogitec, replaces the terminal’s previous system and is designed to integrate and streamline container operations across the yard, gates and quayside. Santos Brasil expects the upgrade to improve planning, productivity, service levels and operational reliability.

OPUS is already in use at the company’s Tecon Santos terminal in São Paulo state and Tecon Vila do Conde in Pará. The platform covers documentation and automated processes related to cargo and vessel flows, giving customers greater speed, safety and predictability.

The rollout forms part of an investment program worth more than R$34 million to modernize Tecon Imbituba. The plan includes new software and equipment, infrastructure improvements and additional capacity.

By adopting OPUS at Imbituba, Santos Brasil has standardized its main digital operating platform across all three of its container terminals.

“The platform has already been successfully implemented at our other terminals and is now being introduced at Imbituba to connect digital technologies, equipment and people,” said Evelyn Lima, Santos Brasil’s operations planning director. “This will make the terminal more integrated, efficient and better prepared to meet our customers’ needs.”

Santos Brasil expands its reach in southern Brazil

The technology investment forms part of Santos Brasil’s strategy to strengthen Tecon Imbituba as a competitive logistics alternative for shippers in southern Brazil.

In the first quarter, the company opened an office in Caxias do Sul, in Rio Grande do Sul state, bringing it closer to customers in the Serra Gaúcha, one of the region’s main industrial centers.

Santos Brasil said the local presence is intended to help companies address logistics challenges involving cost, transit time and service reliability in a region with relatively few port options within a competitive distance.

Tecon Imbituba also added a regular service connecting Brazil and Russia in late May.

Operated by Alpha Shipping, the Lam Service calls at the terminal every two weeks and focuses on refrigerated cargo. The route expands export options for temperature-sensitive products such as animal protein, fruit and other food products.

It is also expected to support fertilizer imports, which are critical to Brazilian agribusiness and in strong demand across the country’s South and Center-West regions.

Tecon Imbituba is served by three other weekly shipping services, providing customers with regular sailings and a broader range of logistics options.

Connection through Santos expands access to global markets

Santos Brasil also links its Imbituba operations with Tecon Santos, one of Latin America’s largest container terminals.

In practice, cargo handled at Imbituba can connect through Santos to a wider network of international services, giving exporters in southern Brazil access to major global markets.

Tecon Imbituba is located between Curitiba and Porto Alegre and near Florianópolis. It has road access through the BR-101 highway, as well as rail and maritime connections.

Its location in a sheltered deep-water port allows the terminal to receive the largest vessels calling along the Brazilian coast without draft or weather-related restrictions, according to Santos Brasil.

The terminal operates around the clock, seven days a week.
