Santos Brasil has defined its goals for reducing environmental impacts for 2024: a 50% reduction in waste generation/TEU, a 30% reduction in water consumption per capita, and a 15% reduction in tons of CO2/TEU emissions.
The goals on the environmental front were defined based upon the reductions achieved in the last three years and upon the initiatives that have been adopted to mitigate the impact of its operations on the environment. In 2020, Santos Brasil recorded a 12% reduction in CO2 emissions, an 8.6% reduction in water consumption, and a 19% reduction in waste generation compared to 2019.
In October 2020, Santos Brasil shares entered the debut portfolio of the S&P/B3 Brasil ESG index. The index is made up of a select group of companies that have good practices related to environmental preservation, social development, and high standards of corporate governance.
The next step is to join the ISE-B3, B3’s Corporate Sustainability Index. To achieve this goal, Santos Brasil created multidisciplinary working groups last year and is mobilized around a plan called “6 Commitments to the Future”, which includes initiatives on policies and guidelines, training and communication, value chain, governance and organization, human development, and climate change.
