São Francisco do Sul is against privatization of its port

Entities, businessmen, public authorities and the population unite against the privatization of the Port of São Francisco do Sul, which has broken records of movement and has investment projects
Population, entities, local businessmen and public authorities fear that the Port of São Francisco do Sul, in the North of Santa Catarina, will be privatized and profits will not be reinvested in the city, harming the municipality, the State and the people who depend directly or indirectly on the port.
Port throughput in general is growing
According to Datamar’s figures, deep-sea throughput at the port of São Francisco do Sul is growing in the comparison of the first quarter of 2021 with the same quarters in 2020 and 2019. The number of vessel calls and the weights handled show an increase.
The main goods exported are soybeans and corn, while imports are dominated by fertilizers.

In early February, the state government announced the extinction of SCPar Parcerias, which up to then managed the ports of São Francisco do Sul, Imbituba and Laguna. The ports belong to federal government, but are under concession to the state of Santa Catarina.
