Through its Partnerships and Investments Secretariat, the São Paulo state government has signed an addendum to the concession contract for the Tamoios Highway, operated by Concessionária Tamoios. The amendment includes an investment of over R$55 million to create a new access route to the Port of São Sebastião.
The funds will be disbursed in stages, in line with the physical progress of the construction works. The announcement was published in the State Official Gazette on Wednesday (6/7).
The new access road will connect the Tamoios Highway bypasses directly to the port area of São Sebastião, establishing a dedicated route that will improve local traffic and streamline the logistics of cargo entering and leaving the terminal, according to the state government.
The goal is to increase the use of the Port of São Sebastião, positioning it as a strategic alternative to the Port of Santos logistics corridor.
Currently, access to the Port of São Sebastião and Ilhabela is via a temporary road that is not suitable for the heavy volume of traffic, especially large trucks, and during peak tourism seasons. The new investment aims to resolve this bottleneck by organizing the region’s traffic and balancing cargo and tourism demands.
The construction work will be overseen by ARTESP (São Paulo State Transportation Regulatory Agency). The São Sebastião Dock Company and the State Highway Department (DER) also approved the proposal, which is aligned with the port’s strategic planning.
Under the Tamoios Highway concession, the government has already completed the North and South bypass works, benefiting residents of Ilhabela, Caraguatatuba, Ubatuba, and São Sebastião, as well as tourists. The South Bypass was inaugurated in November 2024, and the North Bypass in December 2023.
