The São Sebastião Dock Company (CDSS) has accredited the first truck staging yard to organize the arrival of trucks at the Port of São Sebastião. The Port Logistics Support Area (AALP) was authorized by an ordinance published in the State Official Gazette. The facility will be located in the Pontal de Santa Marina district of Caraguatatuba, on the northern coast of São Paulo state, and is expected to begin operations by the end of October.

Named the Serramar Staging Center, the site will have the capacity to accommodate up to 150 vehicles simultaneously. Passage through the AALP will be mandatory, and all trucks authorized to access the port must be pre-scheduled and screened at the yard. The goal is to reduce congestion and waiting times on urban roads, increase logistical predictability, and help reduce pollutant emissions.

“We are implementing an important change in the way vehicles arrive at the Port of São Sebastião. With the Logistics Support Areas, we will organize the entry of trucks, bring more predictability to operations, and at the same time provide greater comfort to drivers while reducing environmental impacts,” said Ernesto Sampaio, president of the Port of São Sebastião.

The new facility will feature parking and support amenities such as restrooms, a cafeteria, and a rest area, ensuring comfort and safety for truck drivers. In addition, the CDSS will maintain continuous oversight at the site to ensure that services comply with the accreditation requirements. The ordinance that authorized the operation also establishes that a Special Commission may request adjustments or improvements whenever necessary.

The Port

Linked to the São Paulo State Secretariat for Environment, Infrastructure, and Logistics (Semil), the Port of São Sebastião has been intensifying its modernization and sustainability efforts. One area of the port is scheduled for leasing in 2026, increasing its handling capacity to 4.3 million tonnes per year. In this context, the implementation of the AALP reinforces the port’s strategic planning.

The measure is also aligned with the terminal’s sustainability goals. By reducing truck waiting times in urban areas, the initiative helps lower fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, drivers will have access to better rest conditions and a safe place to park their vehicles, with support infrastructure, improving working conditions in road freight transport.
