Besides good weather, soil nutrition is one of the first steps toward a successful crop. The healthy growth of plants depends on the use of fertilizers, and their manufacture calls for inputs that can significantly vary in nature.
In Rio Grande’s industrial district, there are companies specializing in fertilizer production, and the materials used in this process arrive at the city’s port. Throughout 2022, vessels offloaded the chemical components used in manufacturing at the public pier.
Among fertilizer input imports, Brazil bought 1,638,039 tons of phosphates and 1,402,290 tons of potassium chloride. The country also imported 972,720 tons of urea, 482,087 tons of ammonium sulfate, and 548,615 tons of the threefold compound Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium (NPK).
See below the volume of fertilizers imported by Brazil from January 2019 to November 2022, according to the DataLiner market intelligence service by Datamar.
