Last Friday (April 17), Sepetiba Tecon and COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers (South America) formalized the signing of a 10-year commercial contract at an event held at the WTC Events Center in São Paulo, marking a new chapter in the partnership between the terminal and the shipping company. The initiative strengthens the strategic relationship between the companies and expands service offerings on the Brazil–China route, one of the most relevant in global trade.
Cooperation between the two companies began with the storage and handling of empty containers. Since then, the partnership has steadily evolved, expanding its scope to include general cargo, project cargo, electric vehicle operations, and, more recently, the transport of full containers. In addition, plans call for exporting pulp and grains through the BRICS Express Service using breakbulk operations.
Currently, Sepetiba Tecon is the only terminal in Brazil authorized by COSCO Shipping Specialized to handle export container shipments bound for China, reinforcing its strategic position in the carrier’s logistics chain.
“China has long been one of Brazil’s main trading partners, and this relationship is becoming increasingly strategic. In this context, the signing of this contract represents not only a significant step forward in commercial relations between the terminal and COSCO, but also a direct impact on the generation of new business and the expansion of service offerings to the market,” said Rafael Vitale, director of Sepetiba Tecon.
According to Shan Guoyang, president of COSCO Shipping Specialized (South America), the agreement reflects the mutual trust built over the years and the strategic alignment between the two companies.
“Sepetiba Tecon has demonstrated operational excellence and technical capability to meet the demands of our multipurpose operations, which has been fundamental to the growth of our activities in Brazil,” Shan noted.
The contract is valid for 10 years and may be renewed and extended, reinforcing the long-term commitment between the companies.
“We remain committed to investing, evolving, and continuously expanding this partnership, which already shows concrete results and is expected to generate even more value for Brazilian foreign trade,” Vitale concluded.
