Shortage of chicken feed in China
Feb, 02, 2020 Posted by datamarnewsWeek 202006
According to Bloomberg, with the blockade of China’s Hubei province, more than 300 million chickens are on the verge of death as shipments of feed and raw materials needed to produce them are halted. This information was shared by the region’s bird association. Hubei consumes around 1,800 tonnes of corn and 1,200 tonnes of soybean meal per day for feed, and could suffer a deficit of 600,000 tonnes of these products by the end of next month.
The China Animal Agriculture Association asked the country’s feed manufacturers to supply Hubei with 18,000 tonnes of corn and 12,000 tonnes of soy bran immediately, according to a statement published on the association’s website. The province is the country’s sixth largest poultry producer and accounts for 5% of China’s annual egg production.
