The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, took part this Thursday (26), in Paraíba, in the inauguration of works at the Regional Airport of Patos and the signing of a commitment agreement for interventions at the Port of Cabedelo. The agenda, held alongside Governor João Azevêdo, brought together initiatives to expand logistics infrastructure and strengthen connectivity in the state.
With an investment of R$ 40.6 million (R$ 26.8 million from the federal government and R$ 13.8 million from the state counterpart), Patos Airport underwent a major modernization. The works included the reconstruction of the runway, now measuring 1,375 meters in length; the implementation of a new aircraft apron; the construction of a 682-square-meter passenger terminal; and the installation of navigation equipment. These upgrades expand operational capacity and enhance flight safety in the region.
Following this, a commitment agreement was signed between the federal government, through the Ministry of Ports and Airports, and the Paraíba Port Authority (Docas-PB), with participation from the state government, to enable works at the Port of Cabedelo. The interventions include dredging the access channel and extending the breakwater, aiming to make vessel maneuvers safer and more efficient while reducing operational restrictions, such as berthing limitations at certain times and under tidal conditions.
The dredging project includes expanding the turning basin radius and widening the channel, with an estimated volume of around 976,500 cubic meters. This will allow larger vessels to operate and reduce logistics costs associated with delays. The extension of the breakwater is expected to improve channel stability and reduce sedimentation, thereby enhancing the long-term durability of port infrastructure.
Planned investments total R$ 64.5 million for dredging and R$ 40.5 million for the breakwater expansion, strengthening the port’s operational capacity and its role in handling regional cargo flows.
