Brazil exported 98.8 million tons of soybeans between January and December 2024, generating revenue of $43.1 billion. The data comes from the Mato Grosso do Sul Soybean Producers Association (Aprosoja/MS), based on the annual export and processing report from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex).
The exported volume showed a 2.95% decline compared to 2023, while revenue fell by 19.29%. Aprosoja/MS economist Mateus Fernandes explained that the drop was caused by climatic factors, such as water deficits that affected national production. Additionally, international competition intensified, with Argentina and the United States offering higher-quality soybeans, reducing Brazil’s market share, especially in China.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, soybean exports also declined, totaling 6.6 million tons—a 14.29% decrease compared to the previous year—with a 26.95% drop in revenue. The state accounted for 6.05% of Brazil’s total soybean exports, representing a 16.55% contraction in the national market. The main buyers of soybeans from Mato Grosso do Sul were China (86.25%), Thailand (2.11%), Argentina (2.04%), Vietnam (1.56%), and South Korea (1.42%).
Regarding processing, Mato Grosso do Sul refined 4.9 million tons of soybeans in 2024. Despite this, the state’s daily processing capacity exceeds 14.4 thousand tons, indicating potential for expansion. The leading companies in the sector were Cargill, Coamo, ADM, and Lar. In the national ranking, Mato Grosso do Sul ranked fourth, behind Mato Grosso, Paraná, Goiás, and Rio Grande do Sul.
