Port of Rio Grande operations have been suspended since midnight Monday, September 21, after a severe storm hit the southern Brazilian city.
Port authority Portos RS confirmed the suspension, saying the weather event damaged structures at the Porto Novo terminal.
Since early Monday morning, technical teams from the port authority have been assessing the extent of the damage, checking the safety of affected facilities and determining what repairs will be required.
According to data from the Rio Grande Bar Pilots, at least five vessels had changes to their scheduled operations. Two other ships were waiting to berth.
There is still no consolidated estimate of the material damage caused by the storm.
Portos RS said its priority is to ensure the safety of workers, port users and others circulating through the affected areas.
Roads partially closed
Portos RS also said Honório Bicalho road and Travessa Porto remain partially closed while electrical wiring repairs are carried out.
Drivers who need to use those routes have been advised to reduce speed and exercise extra caution.
