With the goal of strengthening commercial and institutional ties between Northeast Brazil and strategic Middle Eastern markets, a delegation from the Government of Pernambuco arrived in Asia this weekend for an official mission to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Led by the Northeast Consortium, the mission is a strategic effort to promote the region and attract new investments. The CEO of the Suape Industrial Port Complex, Armando Monteiro Bisneto, traveled alongside the Secretary of Economic Development (SDEC), Guilherme Cavalcanti, and the Executive Secretary for Energy at SDEC, Guilherme Sá.

In 2022, Pernambuco exported and conducted trade worth over US$ 1 billion with the UAE and Saudi Arabia. During the mission, which runs through May 30, the delegation will present the state’s portfolio of opportunities in areas such as energy transition, logistics, and food exports, with a particular emphasis on the strategic potential of the Port of Suape.

“Under Governor Raquel Lyra’s leadership, Pernambuco has been working to expand its presence in international markets, focusing on attracting investments and opening up new markets for products from the state. The Middle East is a strategic partner in these efforts, particularly in the energy transition and agribusiness sectors. We are presenting a robust portfolio of opportunities in areas such as sustainable fuels, logistics, and food exports to Arab investors. This mission is crucial for attracting investments that will drive Pernambuco’s sustainable economic growth,” said Secretary Guilherme Cavalcanti.

The mission’s agenda, which includes representatives from all nine states of the region, features meetings with Arab governments and investment funds interested in financing strategic projects in Northeast Brazil and Pernambuco. These initiatives align with the political and economic strategies of Arab countries and open the door for partnerships across multiple economic sectors.

“During this important mission to the Middle East, we will hold several meetings with investors interested in the industrial port complex and present the port’s potential to many other players. We have several strategic engagements scheduled, and I hope to return to the state with good news for Suape and Pernambuco. Expectations are very high,” said Armando Monteiro Bisneto, CEO of the Suape Complex.

This initiative aims to capitalize on the significant growth in trade between Brazil and countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, whose economies have increasingly opened to commerce with strategic partners in Latin America. In recent years, Brazilian exports to these countries have grown considerably, especially in the food, agribusiness, mining, and energy sectors, highlighting Brazil’s potential— particularly in the Northeast — to penetrate these markets further.
